Wigan Athletic announce they have parted company with manager Malky Mackay.

Wigan Athletic have announced they have parted company with manager Malky Mackay following the Sky Bet Championship home defeat to Derby County.

Mackay has been at the club since November, with the team picking up 19 points from a possible 72 points and currently lying eight points from safety with five games of the season left. The team has not managed to win at home in that time, picking up three points from a possible 39.

No decision has yet been made in terms of a new appointment.

Club Chairman David Sharpe said:

“This is a very difficult decision to make but I feel that for the long term future of the club, there needs to be a change now. I wish Malky all the best for the future.”

Can you imagine how embarrassing it must be to be sacked by a 23 year old chairman?

Quality.

And the best bit is, it isn't even considered big enough news to make it onto the Sky Sports Yellow Banner of Shame.......

He'll be crying all the way to the bank.

I never really understood why so many people rated him.

He was lucky to inherit both Brendan Rogers side at Watford, then Dave Jones at Cardiff - so he didn't actually really have to ever build a team in his career to date.

Something big as gone wrong at Wigan (I doubt Coyle did many positive things whilst he was there - Grant Holt anybody - big wages on a long contract - sound familiar!).  I thought Rosler might have been good for them but the wheels fell off big time this season.

They look doomed now so I can see why they want to start a fresh in the third division.

They still have Holt and other 'gems' Coyle brought in stuck with them for the whole of next season.

They could well stuggle again with those big wages still on board.

That pitch can't help matters.

You can't expect to play decent football on a surface that has 26 blokes (who all weigh 18 stone) churning it up every second week.

There might be a decent couple of players looking for new clubs next season.
Anybody at Wigan that you would fancy pulling a white shirt on?

No- we've got three better keepers than him on the books at the minute.
All he does is wave his arms around and let the opposition score
