If you were Hodgson..

... with the squad to be announced this afternoon, what 23 man squad would you pick for the Euros?

The first few names on my list would be:-

GK - Hart

Defenders - Cahill, Terry, Cole

Midfield - Parker, Lampard, Young

Strikers - Roone

If Hodgson can achieve anything with the paucity of available talent compared to the other major European footballing nations, he will be a miracle worker. I'm guessing he'll include pace and youth e.g. Sturridge, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc but I think Wilshere has missed the boat. I'd play someone like Richards at RB - a bit of power and pace at the back and it wouldn't surprise me if Andy Carroll got the call. Whatever he goes for, I just hope he finds the right combination so that we don't have to experience the same humiliation we did at the World Cup. Quarter finals at least.

I'm not expecting to see many Liverpool players in the squad, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gerrard axed, his time has come and gone in an england shirt.

I'd be amazed to see which ever squad gets picked get past the last 8.

Midfielders: Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Gareth Barry (Man City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Scott Parker (Tottenham), Ashley Young (Man United), James Milner (Man City)

Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Man United), Danny Welbeck (Man United), Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham)

I don't know where to start.

No surprises for me, a bunch of rank average or vastly overrated players who are out of their depth at international level.

I don't remember in my lifetime coming across an England squad list for a tournament and thinking hmmm fair enough.

We'll all agree and disagree on one or two decisions but most England fans' ideas on the players that should be in the squad are fairly similar. It seems like we won't ever have a manager that thinks on the same lines as the average fan.

According to Hodgson, he saw Ox-Chamberlain play well against Pirlo and Ambrosini v AC. Ambrosini didn't play, Pirlo is at Juventus. Woops.

Inclusion of JT is a massive mistake as his mind will be on his trial and not the game.

Only good thing was the exclusion of Ferdinand - drug cheating red scum (ok officially he wasn't fined/suspended for taking drugs but he "accidentally" missed the test!)

The inclusion of Downing is a joke, the non-inclusion of Micah Richards ditto.

Bloody hell only just looked at the squad properly and how the fuck has Glen Johnson been given the nod ahead of a right back that has just won the bloody league?

A very average squad on the whole with no major shocks, then again we don't have a bunch of world class players to choose from.

For me, the biggest disgrace is the selection of Stewart Downing:

Jermain Defoe is another one who I wouldn't have picked, especially over Sturridge.

I agree Sturridge should be in there ahead of Defoe and also Welbeck.

I don't care about the England football team any more though as I have said recently. Too many years of shit friendlies, bias towards players at the top clubs, and too many absolute dickheads in the current generation of players.

How can he leave out Micah Richards ? Crazy decision.
