Phil Brown brings Southend to the Macron, the team he reportedly turned us down for.

Is he now regretting it?

We must win games like these if we are to get promoted, and hopefully without Mavies in the team we'll actually have 11 players on the pitch for a change.

3-0 Bolton.

i think we'll win 2-0, Southend have been poor this season so far.

I go 2-1:  I don't think we've got a clean sheet in us and that seems to be our default scoreline at the moment

I'll go 2-1 too, they'll probably get a lucky goal, we'll play them off the park though.

Should win game, but it will require a massive improvement on last night.

I wouldn't use last night as a form guide just as I didn't Blackpool. I think the goal is just league I get the impression PP wasn't overly gutted about last nights loss but was being PC

Last night was a should win game too and whilst I appreciate it wasn't important from a results perspective, it was important from a performance perspective and the performance wasn't good.
I don't buy this theory that players can be involved in a competitive game and slip into a lower gear - it goes against the grain and there are professional standards and reputations to be upheld. It took all my efforts not to compete against my own kids when they were little and I certainly never let them win unless they were at least trying, so I can't imagine a professional footballer would do anything other than try to win last night. Which tells me they just aren't good enough.

Where have you been for the last 5 years? Bolton players have been doing everything possible to avoid winning.

We're top of the league. Shove your negativity up your armchair shaped arse.

There are different levels of motivation for different games if you play someone bigger and better you raise your game if you play someone lesser they raise their game, it's about who wants it more.
This has been proved time and time again with giant killing acts throughout history, this was a bunch of bright eyed bushy tailed kids getting the chance to play a first team, whereas ours had the ignominy of being pitched against a bunch of kids.
I'm embarrassed by the fact we lost and think it's a disgrace that the players let it happen, but the lack of motivation I can understand.

You sound conflicted.

Are you saying that whilst our players make a determined effort to lose, they are top of the league and are therefore great?

No this was a game no one including the management gave a flying fig about,
no one wanted to watch, the manager certainly only played first team players to save a fine, He took our striker off after 15 minutes and you think the performance was important.

Due to our injury situation and the the embargo the only importance was to get out without injury. hopefully that was the case

I thought Parky was still trying to work out what we need to keep or dump seeing that the club had already announced we'll be busy on the last day of the transfer window so it should have been important to him and to the players. And given that the players were all in the shop window it should have been important to the club from a financial standpoint.

Doesn't matter now though. Hopefully things will change for the better in the next few hours and the next group match will be more positive.

This game takes on a whole new complexion with our new signings on board. Wonder if any will start?

Potential banana skin this game. Suntan will have his team fired up, add to that extra motivation to want to be the first side to beat the league leaders.

Ref watch: Sebastian Stockbridge to oversee Southend meeting

Sebastian Stockbridge will take charge of Wanderers’ Sky Bet League One clash with Southend United on Saturday.

Involved in the game professionally since 2011, the Tyne official was based in the Blue Square Premier for two seasons before being promoted into the Football League.

He has never taken the whistle for a Bolton game before, but did oversee the Shrimpers’ League Two clash with Chesterfield in August 2013 and last season’s meeting with Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium.

He has also been the man in the middle of seven games so far this season, dishing out 30 yellow cards and one red card

Alf Greenwood and Paul Hobday will run the line today, whistle Mark Heywood is the fourth official.

Last Season (2015/16): Games: 30 | Yellows: 102 | Red: 6
