8% of football fans say they would stop watching their team if a player came out as gay.

So let's think it through hypothetically.

Nicolas Anelka, 21 goals for Bolton Wanderers in 53, is outed as a homosexual man. He has been caught with a rent boy, performing fellatio behind Bargain Booze, whatever...

Gary Madine, averages four or five goals a season for Bolton Wanderers. He isn't attracted to other men at all, he likes large breasts and muff and gets plenty of both in his spare time...

It's a tricky one isn't it?

Please vote for the one you feel most happy about wearing the BWFC badge.

Anelka could be gay, have 1 leg and Be a serial kitten murderer and I'd still prefer him to madine

I used to hurl abuse at that lazy twat every week, as he ponced about, letting the other 10 do all the work but I still support Bolton.

There's your answer.

Daft question, and I find it hard to believe that 8% of football fans really think that way, happy for both to wear the badge equally in the context of the question.

I would rather see Anelka based on his quality as a player.

i don't care where or who they get in on with as long as they perform well for BWFC.

Still can't see a player coming out for a few years yet though

8% of football fans. Read the OG post properly next time.

Judging by the amount of gay sex talk on here I'd say any Bolton player coming out as gay would become an overnight legend.

Maybe even KP would leave the sanctity of behind BB and get down to the Macron occasionally

The best solution would be for the 8% who put their homophobia ahead of their enjoyment of football to fuck off home and let the real football fans get on with enjoying the footie.

I wonder if it's more than 8% at certain clubs?

Particularly the ones who appear to be stuck in 1983...

There is nothing to say that this 8% actually go to games, these kind of surveys are generally not worth the paper they're written on.
There are a lot of fuckwits out there who will answer in a way to make themselves sound big and hard, I remember years ago a "survey" done by Granada into Asian footballers in league football suggesting that the league was racist against Asians because there were no Asian players at any league clubs.
It interviewed a load of Asian youths near Burnden Park all of which said exactly wanted the interviewers wanted to say, that they didn't go watching BWFC because there were no Asians playing for them and if there was they would all go and watch.
Players are judged on performance and no fan I know would turn his back on a team for playing a gay player, but one thing is for certain and player coming out would get absolutely terrored by opposing fans, and the better player or greater perceived threat on the pitch he was the more he would get terrored.

I was just reading about that, good to see the "West Ham way" is getting back to full flow. There does seem to be an upward trend in this kind of thing.

......gay or straight it still breaks your heart that not so long ago we could attract the likes of Anelka, and now we have to put up with Madine  playing in the same position.

True but we were spending money that we hadn't got and that nearly finished us off as a club.
