Zach Clough’s seventh goal of the season secured Wanderers a third consecutive victory in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon.

The in-form frontman struck the decisive effort of the game with 25 minutes on the clock, with the Whites withstanding pressure from the Cobblers inside the second period to pick up all three points come full time.

And speaking following the final whistle, manager Phil Parkinson covered the following points…

On a hard-fought victory…
Every result is hard earned. We said to the lads in the dressing room that when you’ve won away from home, everybody is out on their feet and that is what we’ve had to do today to get the result.

I thought first half, we were terrific and some of our ball play was top drawer. We cut them open time and time again and scored a really good goal.

Second half, there was always going to be a change. They went two up top with Richards and Revell and we had to handle them.

It was difficult to get control, so we had to show another side of our game which included commitment, discipline and making good decisions.

That was the key and when you’re up against players like Revell and Richards who will win every first ball, you’ve got to make sure you’re in a good position to win the second.

We did that all over the pitch today though and I can’t credit the lads enough for the performance.

On the determination shown by his players…
I said to the lads earlier this week that I’d watched Northampton earlier in the season and their momentum from last season was carrying them through.

This stadium was bouncing, but they’d lost three games on the bounce coming into today’s match which is always dangerous for the opposition.

There’s always going to be some sort of response in that situation and although I don’t think they got it in the first half, in the second they did give us problems.

Ultimately though, the saves that Ben has made have been comfortable ones and he’s put in a very accomplished goalkeeping performance.

On Zach Clough getting on the scoresheet once again…
I don’t think you can underestimate the quality of that goal – I’m certainly looking forward to seeing it again anyway like I’m sure the Bolton fans are as well.

It was a top class goal and a great ball from Sammy too. I thought Cloughie was superb inside the opening 45 minutes – I’d go as far as to say that’s as good as he’s played this season.

Sammy meanwhile is a very intelligent player and one who is difficult to keep tabs on which is great for us.

On the backing from the club’s supporters…
I’m really pleased for the supporters today. After the Peterborough result a couple of weeks ago, we’ve rewarded them with a performance they can be proud of today.

They have seen a performance where the players were prepared to roll their sleeves up and fight for every single ball all over the pitch.

This is a competitive business and the opposition manager will always throw everything he’s got at a game. Today though, we stood strong and should be proud of our efforts as a unit.

And finally, looking towards next weekend’s FA Cup game against Sheffield United…
It was important that we got a result today. We said to the players last night that we now have 16 days before our next league game and so we’ll be sitting on this result for a long time.

We got it though and it stands us in good stead heading into next weekend’s game against Sheffield United, one of our rivals in the league, and we’ll certainly head into that match looking to enjoy it and progress in the competition.
