Just been reading about the 101 year old bloke given 13 years in the nick for historical child abuse.

I've no problem with the sentence, but is there any real point in putting him behind bars?

He can't live much longer, and we're paying for his upkeep.

he needs a jail sentence for what he's done. It's either that or a spot of euthanasia would be suitable for this animal

Didn't seem to have much remorse either.

I can't help thinking that making him return to his community would be a much harsher sentence.

He'd be a virtual prisoner in his own home.

if he got sent home the vigilantes would be on him as soon as he got home, can't say i'd be too bothered really though to be honest

There are three reasons that people are sent to prison:

a) to help to reform their behaviour ( not applicable in this case)
b) to protect the public( not appropriate in this case)
c) to punish.

The only reason to put this man in prison is to punish him.

That doesn't need a prison sentence as it'll cost a fortune to keep him there.  No prison is set up to look  after people this old. Far better if he was remanded into secure old age retirement home where his movements can be severely restricted.

Yes they do.

A few years ago I was vetting a few homes for a relative of mine.

The best one was a BUPA owned place which had a special section where difficult customers were safely locked away from the other residents.

Not somewhere I'd like to end up though.
