Below is a iplayer clip of a Syrian who illegally came to Britain.

The story is told in three ten minute clips.

On the face of it the bloke who the story is about is a decent human being but he's just playing us (probably unknowingly) as stupid mugs.

Fair enough in that he wants to leave a country at war with itself - but the rest of his family including his mum stays behind - I guess they don't think they are imminent danger even if he does?

He clearly also sets out to come to Britain - to further his education - and ignores registering himself in the first EU country he comes to - and which of course would give him his safety he says is the reason he left Syria in the first place - which is what he should have done - and no doubt he fully is aware of this.

He gets to Calais and smuggles himself into England THEN applies for asylum.

Whilst he is awaiting his application to be determined (which of course is granted) he is given free accommodation and a free cash hand out of £35 per week to live on - which he COMPLAINS (albeit nicely) is not enough!

After free money and lodgings for seven months he gets to stay here and the first thing he does is to sign on - to get £80 per week, and seek free housing benefit.

His plan now is to gain university entrance so that he can have FREE education and FREE grant for housing on campus!

He says (again very nicely) that he doesn't want to work doing low paid jobs because he wants to better himself - doesn't he think many of those in these low paid jobs WANT to be doing them, but they do because they probably aren't getting free hand outs like he's been receiving!

Then to cap it all off, he says when there is peace back home in Syria he will go back and use his (paid for by the British tax payer) degree to help put the country back on its feet - I can see him rushing to pay all his student loans back then if that turns out to be the case from Syria then - do you!

In the end he IS given a university place but fails the 'English' test required of him to take up the place.

So you know what - he phones up the university complains appeals - and he is allowed in!!!

So someone who is not put a single penny into the pot in this country will benefit to the tune of thousands of pounds, for several years, funded by the likes of you and me, whilst the rest of his family seem content to live in a place that is too dangerous for him!!!

He's not even a youngster either - he's certainly got grey hair and one of his 'school' mates from back home is nearly bald!

I'm all for helping your fellow man but there is something badly wrong when people just rock up here to take the piss!

Judge things for yourself here -

This is typical of the way people from around the world view Britain and why so many aim for here, if the danger was so imminent then any even remotely decent human being wouldn't leave without their family so the trouble is just an excuse to take advantage of our soft approach.

And the point is that it is OUR approach. Not the EU or France or Germany but the UK Government in Westminster.

Other EU members don't hand out benefits, healthcare and education and whilst they have all the tax, administration and trade deal benefits of membership of the single market they are quite happy to accept freedom of movement because their tax payers don't have to hand out a single cent to refugees - unless they want to donate to the charities that support them.

Unfortunately the British public know so little about the world, most seem to think it's an EU problem when we have the power to change benefit law anytime we want. All we have to do is get our MPs to table a motion that says benefits, healthcare and education are granted to people and their dependants who have paid tax for say 5 years of more.
Unfortunately no political party will champion the issue.

That is simply not true.

Why have you made that up?

All countries set their own policies on benefits and social welfare. The only stipulation from the EU is that migrants operate under the same rules as nationals. So if we only give benefits to taxpayers asylum seekers would only get benefits after they have paid in.
As you point out, what each country offers asylum seekers varies enormously. They get barely more than a euro a day in Romania for example whereas we are stupidly generous.
So don't try to make out it's an EU issue.
We just happen to be more benevolent than some other EU countries which makes us a more attractive proposition.

So after reading your link all the EU country's listed provide asylum seekers with benefits, healthcare and education!

Doesn't that just confirm what I said and totally makes a lie out of what you claimed originally, which was...

Most working people in this country, and whom have lived here for years, just earn enough to take them over the threshold where they qualify for paying every bill and tax going. Is it any wonder these people feel aggrieved by the example above.
This country's always helped those from abroad in danger, and rightly so, but the above example and thousand more show how the UK's generous welfare system can be used to help those overseas who are obviously not that desperately in need.

Spot on but to be fair it isn't just migrants that are the problem the whole welfare system needs shaking up, there are people in this country that have never worked a day in their lives and have no intention of ever doing so, and families that keep having kids to increase the amount of benefits they get and get bigger houses.
It is absolutely infuriating to read stories like the original post and there are many more of them but there are plenty of enemies of common decency within too.
There are less and less people contributing and more and more people taking out, and a load of borrowing to prop it up.
Sounds like a recent more localised example of finance control.

You can't keep pumping kids out now to get extra benefits. I'm pretty sure that it is a maximum of 2 plus there is now a cap on how much you can get now.

It's a good step in the right direction.

The ones that really piss me off are those with the ten kids who have made parenting a nice cushy job for themselves where they receive around £40k per year.

As I said, we control our own welfare system. The EU says we should give migrants the same benefits as we do nationals.
Therefore if we introduce "pay in before you draw out" criteria with supporting legislation around benefit caps and provision for the sick and infirm we kill two birds with one stone.
