i know a lot of us are feeling very disillusioned with how things have gone on here recently and especially yesterday but we have to keep going.

Breaders and Boggers are banned, numbers are dropping and 58 now feels like jacking it in.

What can we do to get back to some kind of normality? We used to be able to have banter and arguments without it going too far but things have escalated over the last few months

How can we encourage people to come back and the lurkers to make the big step and start to post?

I can't see this site die, it would mean i have to do some actual work for a change, so if not for yourselves do it for me, please?  Very Happy

are dancing bears the answer? I'll try anything

Just noticed there are 32 guests viewing the site, why don't they join? Are us regular posters putting them off with the way we deal with each other?

I'm still struggling with my health. Can't seem to shift this bug,and I find myself, once again, confined to bed. I really need to take a week off work, but the weekend will have to do.
Looks like I'll be missing from the Macron tomorrow, which always pisses me off.
Things will look up shortly,I'm sure.

Hope you can shake it off soon Bonce. You'll be doing marathons before you know it. (I find its easier to eat them rather than run them  Very Happy )

Your kind thoughts are appreciated,Glos.
I think a hot bath is the answer at the moment. I usually read the paper in the bath, but they've sent The Telegraph today, and it's too big to mess about with.
I'll listen to some 'Just William' instead. Very Happy

I mentioned in another post that people respond to slights, obviously, and it escalates to unacceptable proportions. On a military site I also frequent there's a scheme in place where a person can be selectively banned. He can't post a new topic, he can't use the quote function, he is monitored for prattish replies and disinformation and if it gets worse he can be banned from that thread for a determined period of time from a day to permanent' Also there are a couple of sections where swearing is not allowed at all. No "Sh1t", no "Feck" or other variations and certainly no personal attacks. It runs well and most people behave most of the time.
On this site there does seem to be an air of emnity. A new poster posts and immediately becomes this or that poster and has to prove who he is before being accepted.
It'll probably take a lot of moderation to start with and not a little self discipline but possibly worth it in the end.
Folk do have to be given the chance to air their opinion without fear and it isn't nice to face a barrage of abuse just because. If a person disagrees, it's no good shouting "Twat" with giving a response nicely phrased so it becomes a discussion.
I can't say that this site has a clique as there are never enough posters to use the term, but there is a definite leaning towards favouring some posters over others. I have never had anything but pleasantries from all posters, even Bread and Boggers, so it sometimes disappoints me when the sparks start to fly.
Lets try to be pleasant and respectful to each other without the blame culture that sometimes surfaces. That's the way to go. And we could end up recruiting more posters
Now, queue up for a kiss.  Evil or Very Mad

There's a good collection of characters on any forum but there's always one who tries to emerge as appertaining to be the alpha poster.
Sooner or later teddy gets his eyes pulled out and flies from the pram when the alpha's soft underbelly gets exposed, and that's where we are at now here on Nuts.
The alpha is posting as guest if you choose to look?

I like to try and get on with people in normal life and mirror that on here but the things I hate over all others are double standards and hypocrisy and there can be a fair bit of that here.
How many posters have come on here and been accused of being fake posters or banned posters, I had a thread made about me when I came on and numerous others have been treated with suspicion bordering on paranoia so if lurkers are seeing this why would they bother.
There are cliques and agendas and there will always be to a degree but the alpha thing is pathetic and the amount of personal vitriol is rife. BA shutting it's forum down should bring their readers over but one glance will convince many it's not worth bothering with.
On a separate note hope you're feeling better soon bounce this one seems to have been around a while,

If only there were more women on the site...actually, don't shout, but im being semi serious, I know the fairer sex is accused of being bitchy, but nothing like some of the shenanigans on here. I don't post half as much as I used to, combination of health being rubbish and also not appreciating some of the banter which tips into abuse. I come on here to discuss stuff, wanderers related and more generally, and if on balance I feel worse not better for participating, I make the logical decision to withdraw.

Many good points made on this thread and I'd like to respond to several of them.

First off though, I would like to add to everybody else's good wishes to Bonce - get well soon mate - and also to Manda too, I do hope you are back to full health soon.

At the risk of boring everybody I would like to yet again remind everyone that this site was set up for the enjoyment of BWFC supporters and anyone else who would like to join in with us (even Burnley fans!).  It is provided free of charge to everyone and is run totally by the goodwill of a very small number of people who give freely of their time and expertise to develop and maintain the site and pay (out of our own pockets!) the costs of running it.

A special mention goes to Karly who each week singlehandedly goes to the trouble of providing us with Radio Nuts - what would many of us do without it!

None of us make a single penny for doing any of this - indeed we actually have rejected on a number of occasions money from businesses wanting to place advertisements on here.

We do all of this just to enjoy a laugh between ourselves and to share the laughs with as many people who want to join in with us.

The more the merrier.

As for modding the site, we treat everyone as grown-up's - indeed we all are - and so seldom if ever mod anything in the belief that you are all reasonable people in real life, and should know how to regulate yourselves on here.

In retrospect I've been proved badly wrong on that and a small number of people have chosen to take this as a sign of weakness from the site (or maybe me in particular?) and to wage their own vendettas and carry out their own agenda's, irrespective of what harm it does to the forum itself.

If we really want the forum to continue (Bolton Banter and Burnden Aces have both folded in the last six months or so), then this must STOP now, or else we will go the same way.

Anyway to the points raised above -

Bollotom - selective modding of individual threads

The site doesn't allow us to do this.

It might be a good idea though if we had more mods to 'police' the site and take down 'trolling' posts when they first appear, rather than letting them remain in view all the time?

If every time someone trolls their post is immediately removed then perhaps they will stop trolling in the first place?

We already have a number of mods but in reality there is only two of us who actually do much modding - and even then we seldom delete posts.

If anyone would like to help the site by becoming a mod and being able to take down these deliberately 'inflammatory' posts as soon as they appear, please say so (or pm me) and we will arrange it.

Soul Kitchen - Alpha posters

I agree.

There's nothing wrong in some folk wanting to be 'leaders' of views and opinions on any site but when these people start to have agendas to get people banned or removed from the site because they personally don't like them - and this in turn starts to damage the site causing it to fail then something has to be done.

I think we are now at that point.

Hopefully people will now have learnt this.

WGO - Welcoming newbies

To be honest we get so few of these - and the ones we do get are often fake accounts anyway - that I do understand the natural suspicion of many that they are indeed another manifestation of a previously banned poster (usually AD).

There is very little we can actually do to police such accounts as it is so easy for anyone determined enough to set up a fake email address and a proxy ip account, and post as whoever they want to pretend they are.

WGO - BA's former posters

Again to be honest as far as I could tell there was only one 'real' poster left in the end when BA closed its forum and he had already expressed his negative opinion of Nuts on there (and me in particular), so I doubt anyone will be joining us anytime soon from that site.

Chairmanda - More women on the site.

I do agree and would welcome them.

How do we attract them here though?

If you would like to be a mod with us, please just say, we would love you to be one anytime you would like.

Finally I was having a self imposed exile of a week (as suggested by Norpig) not because I feel I've done anything wrong but to steer clear of having any future accusations thrown at me that the site only survived in the absence of the two people I banned because I worked hard and posted a lot to keep the place going.

It is pleasing to see the site is surviving just fine without any inflated self ego's about (to which you can add mine if you so wish).

Nuts is here for ALL of us and not just the one or two who believe it will collapse and die without them.

(You both know who I mean).

I will now return to my exile.

Thank you for you views and ideas of the site and how to make it better, please keep them coming

(PS, boxing lovers don't forget the DeGale v Jack bout early Sunday morning - should be a cracker!).

I've been reading this forum on and off for a while but more so since BA died. I stopped posting over there regularly once it came to light that the site owner and the mods used to deliberately post opposing views, no matter how ridiculous, just to stimulate argument and therefore up the post count. It killed it for me as I thought there was no point in debating with people who don't actually believe what they are saying. Hopefully that isn't the policy here?

I know some people on here from the old Beeb 606 site and always remember Breadman as being one of the best posters over there. I'm surprised he's being made out to be one of the bad guys here tbh but I'm not quite up to speed with everything thats been going on. Unlike some of you I do actually have to do some work during the day!

For the record I quite enjoy reading a lot of the childish and petty arguments that develop aswell as the name calling. I certainly would not join in them though so I'm not sure if you would consider that it is putting me off or not.

I have only ever had a problem with one poster or he had a problem with me and that escalated into me being banned for retaliation. I was here long before him. That aside I was alway's being accused of being the new poster, yes I did a couple of jokey one's I'll admit to that but nowhere near the amount that was being bandied about. Most of those accusations came from that poster anyway and sluffy makes no bones that he intensely dislikes me ,I'm ok with that. I even posted under my real name and photo and that was deemed a fake. At least he replies to Breadman, I don't even rate a reply to a fair question, again I'm not bothered but I think it's all silly. It is-was a great forum for a laugh and a bit of harmless needle and it still can be. I can point right to the time this all started and it began with the joining of a poster with an agenda to get rid of a few names on here and maybe another agenda as well.

For what its worth i think you always need a bit of banter, the problem for me is i am often drawn to a thread (Football) or even non footy, only to find almost without exception that thread changes to some stupid comment that gets a response and off we go sod all to about the thread.

Usually petty points scoring more often at this point i say bollocks to it.

I can stand the posting for just a response (no names) but that's part of the banter its the petty squabbling that turns me off.
