Back on home soil, need a win, will probably get one with Spearing returning.

It would be a disaster for Parky if we don't win.

The big danger here is complacency and thinking that after playing Sheff U and being at home it will be easy. It won't.

Should get through this one OK. Because we can't seem to keep clean sheets at the minute I think it will be 2-1

Preview: Five talking points ahead of Bolton Wanderers v Bristol Rovers

1. Back to winning ways?

Our unbeaten month came to an end at the hands of the Blades on Saturday with Billy Sharp’s double enough to see off a valiant Bolton side.

Phil Parkinson will no doubt be eager to get his promotion push back on track, the gaffer and his backroom staff will be looking for nothing but three points come tomorrow evening.

2. Jay Spearing

Following the win over Rochdale, news broke that Jay Spearing picked up his tenth booking of the season and would face a two-match suspension.

The midfielder has now served his time away from the team and will be hoping to earn his place back in the starting XI and guide the Whites to victory. However, Spearing will face competition for his place, with the likes of Tom Thorpe, Liam Trotter, James Henry and Derik Osede all able to play in central midfield.

3. Double over Bristol Rovers

Wanderers have already met Bristol Rovers this season, with the first fixture against the Gas taking place in August 2016.

Ultimately, it was Phil Parkinson’s men who went home from The Memorial Stadium happiest, with goals from Josh Vela and Jay Spearing guiding Bolton to a 2-1 win. The meeting will also be Rovers first trip to Macron Stadium since its opening in 1997.

4. Under the lights

Tuesday’s encounter with Bristol Rovers will be our eighth Sky Bet League One fixture taking place under the lights this season.

We’ve developed somewhat of a record for night games this season winning seven of the aforementioned eight games. The solitary league defeat came against Rochdale in late September, meaning Parkinson’s men have won their last five, evening league games.

Let’s continue the run please lads.

5. Injury returns

Tuesday could also see the return of a few familiar faces. Andrew Taylor has missed the last two games having come off injured against Rochdale, he’ll face competition for his spot from Dean Moxey who has filled in for Taylor during his absence.

Elsewhere, Gary Madine may feature should he have recovered from his illness that saw him miss the defeat against Sheffield United, while Reece Wabara could make his debut if he proves to be match fit.

Chris Long also returned to action against Sheffield United, the forward will be hoping to make an impact should he be given the chance to do so.

Report: Bolton 1-1 Bristol Rovers

IN BRIEF

Wanderers and Bristol Rovers played out a 1-1 draw at Macron Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The deadlock was broken inside six minutes as following a beautifully worked team move, Josh Vela slotted home from six yards out.

The visitors were level with 15 minutes remaining however as Byron Moore squeezed the ball home from a tight angle, while Bolton finished the game with ten men after Chris Long's late dismissal for a second bookable offence.

TEAM NEWS

Chris Long returned to the starting line-up for Wanderers, while Andrew Taylor was also in from the off for the Whites after a lay-off through injury.

FIRST HALF

Wanderers started brightly, with Chris Long and James Henry proving themselves nuisances inside the opening stages.

And they were rewarded with seven minutes on the clock as Filipe Morais unselfishly laid the ball off for Vela who coolly slotted home from six yards out.

Completely deserved given their fast paced start to proceedings, the goal appeared to boost the visitors with Wanderers put under pressure for a period following their opener.

Bolton were dealing with any balls into the box with ease however, although the Pirates were looking a threat when in and around the penalty area.

Ellis Harrison proceeded to spurn a golden opportunity with the first period halfway through meanwhile, with him pickpocketing Mark Howard on the byline with the keeper seemingly shielding the ball out of play and the Bristol man somehow firing his
shot wide of the mark from a tight angle.

The travelling faithful were growing in noise as their side continued to press forward, while they were left calling for a penalty after Stuart Sinclair’s effort was blocked in the area by Morais.

On the counter attack however, Bolton nearly doubled their lead against the run of play, only to see Long’s tight angled strike ripple the side netting.

With the clock running down to half time meanwhile, chances in front of goal were very much few and far between but it was Rovers who were spending more time attacking.

Come half time however, Wanderers’ lead was still intact.

SECOND HALF

As proceedings got back underway, the start of the second half also saw a change for Bolton with Liam Trotter replacing Jay Spearing.

Within minutes of the restart, the visitors thought they were destined to draw level, only for Luke James’ drive to be hooked off the line by Wheater.

Again, Rovers had the upper hand with possession as they had for large periods of the first half, with Wanderers forced to defend in their numbers.

On occasions when Bolton did make their way upfield however, they themselves came close courtesy of a Henry free-kick which narrowly cleared the crossbar.

For all of their endeavours though, Bristol Rovers weren’t really troubling Howard too much with the majority of their efforts coming outside of the area and down the flanks.

With the game entering its final 20 minutes, it was a fixture finely balanced on a knife-edge but the visitors were finally rewarded for their persistence in the 75th minute as Moore rounded Howard and slotted home from a tight angle.

They almost snatched the lead meanwhile with ten of the 90 remaining, but somehow Bolton managed to scramble it clear after a spill by Howard.

It was frustrating stuff for Wanderers, with them being limited in their attacks by a stubborn Rovers defence.

And that was compounded late on as Long received his marching orders for a second bookable offence with the spoils being shared at the final whistle.

Inept, mediocre piss poor  tonight Slow, uninventive generally clueless. Second to every ball, losing every tackle, misplaced passes- a  shambles .
Rochdale deserved at least a point, Sheffield Utd deservedly won, and tonight Bristol  should have won. I fear for the game against Wimbledon on Saturday
If Parkinson can't come up with a winning formula soon, then even the playoffs might well be beyond us.
Tonight- an incompetent disgrace!!

Shocking. If we can't hoof it to Madine we may as well just throw some shirts out and hope for the best.
Didn't turn up at Sheffield and still the same tonight. Sure we played twelve man as the black twat was useless, but that's no excuse for belly tickling.
We were lucky to get a draw and at home that's nowhere near good enough. Glad I won't be watching that shite for a couple of weeks.

Shambolic tonight deserved to lose, but with Scunthorpe also losing we missed a chance, add to that Spearing injured, Long Banned, and i  think Vela will be banned, Saturday now looks very tough, we struggled in every department however i thought Bristol played really well.

I was banging on in December that if we lost Ameobe /(Clough) then it would be very hard to replace him, and that is patently obvious.

They all stunk tonight but i still fail to see what all the fuss is about Derek he offers no more or less than Thorpe for me. Play Trotter and we play with 10 men, a really bad night all round.
