National Service Conscription

As populist nationalism is making  comeback in the West for the first time since the heady days of Mussolini, Hitler and Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists it's inevitable that trigger fingers are going to get twitchy. As Cameron said, the EU has provided stability in Europe for the last 40 years but now the alliance is creaking and already there are signs of trouble ahead.
Yesterday, Sweden reintroduced national service in response to Russian troop movements on their border - in the full knowledge that Russia has territorial claims and under Putin has shown they aren't averse to the odd sneaky war - Ukraine for example.

Is there any point in conscripting the current crop of obese feckless wonders that pass themselves off as today's British youth or would they just burst into tears and cry for their mummies if they were faced with an invasion?

It would never work.

They would all sue the government every time they got shouted at.

If you join up voluntarily they make you sign a disclaimer which basically says you belong to HM's Government and they can do what they like with you and you've got no right of redress if you don't like it.

But conscription removes that element of personal choice and self-determination in the decision making process.

And we all know that there would be a steady stream of ambulance chasing lawyers hanging round the gates of the camps, handing out cards and offering to sue and "get justice" for the little shitbags.

If I thought it'd work, I'd back a return to National Service tomorrow but I honestly think it'd all go tits up in about 3 weeks flat.

(I nearly wrote "National Socialism" then by mistake. Just so we're clear, I don't want a return of that because that would be a very bad thing indeed.)

I'm already stocking up on corned beef and candles.

Plans for my underground bunker are already taking shape. ( I'm going to need a bloody long ramp).

I've rigged up a tannoy system to blare out non stop Brucie.

With the tiny size of our army conscription would cause more problems than it was worth - not that for a moment do I believe anyone is seriously suggesting it.

No need for conscription here. There's a waiting list for all three services. In the past we have visited various National Service ideas  controlling youth, criminals and jobless. National Service doesn't work except for a miniscule amount of time. We have reserve forces too so no need at the moment for what could become an extremely expensive exercise for nowt. Sweden are doing it to counter a possible Russian threat, but you have to also bear in mind that Sweden is "Neutral" and probably needs to recruit to maintain that neutrality.
