Does anyone own a humidifier?

After years of suffering from minor throat irritations,I've been told that a humidifier could be the answer to my prayers.
Any advice on their efficacy would be appreciated.
Would I need one for every room?

OK I have a dehumidifier in my man cave but only use it if I haven't been working in said cave for a while over the winter. It soaks up all the moisture that could affect my computer and costs a fortune in leccy. I don't have a humidifier but if you'd like to stand in my shed for a few days it would probably have the same effect and I'll split the leccy savings with you. You'd be most welcome.
