Having been laid low with a virus over the past few weeks,I've been watching a fair number of films,in a desperate effort to fill the void.
Although not a big fan of Horror films,I've had a few jump out of my chair moments during this time, and at least two cases of scalding tea all down my front moments.
I've decided to give this genre of film making a proper go,and I was wondering if my fellow Nutters could recommend some genuinely scary/creepy films?
I don't mean blood and gore, just genuinely disturbing.

I'm not big on horror films, but the one that always used to scare me was 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'.

More recently, 'The Descent' is excellent viewing.

Watched a couple last week,'The Conjuring' and 'Conjuring 2' which were pretty good, but I wouldn't regard them as classics by any stretch of the imagination.

The Shining and The Wicker Man (NOT the remake with Nicolas Cage) are disturbing but not particularly scary. The most disturbing film I have seen is Funny Games (the 1997 one directed by Michael Haneke) although the original 1993 The Vanishing is pretty disturbing too.

However if you want "genuinely scary/creepy" you will just have to wait for the Tory party manifesto.

Cat People, made in 1942 is a good example of a classic horror film. The spiral Staircase is another.
Dead Of Night, with Michael Redgrave and wooden pal, gave me nightmares as a kid.

The Devil's Backbone's worth a watch.

It's from the pen of Guillermo Del Toro and it's what he does best. (Forget Pacific Rim and Th'Obbit, it's more Pan's Labyrinth.)

I'll watch that Fin. I'm getting a nice selection to see me through the close season.

Not sure my nerves will stand it.

It's definitely worth watching. Can't help feeling that the trailer doesn't do it justice as I remember thinking it was really good when I saw it a couple of years ago.

The Conjuring is very good but presume thats already been listed here.

Audition is seriously messed up too:
