Wanderers are planning to bolster their recruitment network in the coming weeks to underpin the success of promotion.

A specialised international scout will be appointed to maximise the Whites’ reach abroad, while another specialist, aimed at the Under-23s market, will also be brought in.

The scouting network had been decimated during the club’s financial problems in 2016 but has since been pieced back together by Tim Breacker, who was brought in by Phil Parkinson from Bradford City last summer.

Though not in a paid position at the club, Lee Anderson – son of chairman Ken – was an advisor many of the Whites’ incoming deals.

Wanderers focussed primarily on the UK this season as they looked to get out of League One but are expanding their reach with the Championship in mind.

Despite the development squad being all-but demolished last summer, David Lee and Nicky Spooner have managed to transform their fortunes. It is understood a scout will now be appointed to bring in players who have slipped through the net of other clubs to supplement the flow of youngsters from the academy.

Parkinson is keen to restore Wanderers’ image this summer as an appealing destination for players without the shackles of a transfer embargo.

“Ken, the directors and the chief executive are working hard,” he said.

“We need it lifted to be competitive. We kind of got away with it this year, but we know we won’t do that in the Championship.

“I don’t want to be reading in the papers - and neither does the chairman - about ‘The Troubles of Bolton’.

“We’re trying to attract players. We’re competing with Aston Villa and Derby County for players and we want to make sure that Bolton is an attractive proposition for them to come and play.

“This time last year when I was meeting players, there was a few I lost out on. As much as I tried to convince them everything was alright, they didn’t buy into it and went elsewhere, although we’re delighted with the ones we did manage to get.

“It’s a huge summer for the club, but the powers that be will be working very hard.”

This embargo needs sorting quickly, thought it would have been done by now tbh.
