Has anyone had one out?
Is it painful?
I only ask because my brother has to go into hospital to have one out. It's buried next to a couple of blood vessels, and is causing him intermittent pain.
If you have any horror stories I could pass on to him,I'd be very grateful.
Any inclusion of the words 'agony' and 'blood' would be a welcome bonus.

I would rather put up with the pain than have anyone go anywhere near my mouth with syringes and mini Dremel tools and the like.  affraid affraid affraid

I had my wisdom teeth removed in my late teens.

The top two came out easily I seem to remember.

The bottom two less so but no big deal.

Maybe extractions are more different in later years?

Welcome back btw.

Still have my wisdom teeth so no horror stories from me.  Just make one up based on the film, The Dentist.

I had a couple out two years ago after it was discovered they were very deep and had been rubbing against my molars and had caused an abcess that was causing a hole in my jaw. During the operation, they damaged the mandibular nerve causing paralysis (paresthesia) in the bottom left quarter of my face - a bit like Bell's Palsy. After a month I started to get a bit of sensation i.e. tingling in it but it took a good year before I got full sensitivity back again.
If the wisdom teeth are deep, there's a fair chance of nerve damage apparently. I was lucky to have recovered, but there are plenty of people who don't.

I had one out ten years ago- almost like a major op as it was so embedded. It was hard to get at so full anaesthetic. I was in hospital overnight and then had a face swollen like a hamster for days. I looked like I'd gone 10 round with Tyson Fury- the bruising lasted two weeks,
I had 6 dissoluble stiches that took about 10 days to come out.
Not enjoyable at all

Right ok I knew someone who had one that would not budge until his jawbone broke in half as the root had grown out and curled round the bone so as the dentist pulled the jaw broke and he was off to hospital. My sister in law was ugly enough before she had all 4 out but now something weird has happened to it that makes her face bulge out on one side never gone down and she talks funny like she's taking the piss. I won't have her in the house.

Oh yes a guy I worked with had to have it levered out from the side and the tool slipped and punctured his tongue blood all over dentist's coat, he got up and staggered into the waiting room and people with kids left he was shout c u next Tuesday at the dentist. He chose them on recommendations.

Here's the horror story. I've had two out and never felt a thing. However John Major was going in hospital to have some done at the same time. I asked the dentist why I wasn't being done in hospital and he told me you only go there when they are too difficult and complicated to remove!
So it's going to be rough I would say. Very Happy
