Bolton Wanderers Under-23s moved to the top of the league following a hard-fought victory away at fellow high-flyers Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday afternoon, ensuring that their unbeaten run now stands at ten games.

And they even found themselves a goal down in the clash, with Frederik Nielsen stabbing home following a goalmouth scramble inside the first five minutes to give the Owls the edge in the match.

Wanderers responded well however, with Connor Hall creating a chance but narrowly failing to find the net.

The equaliser was coming though, and it arrived in the 25th minute after Jeff King crossed the ball for Connor Hall to score with a header.

Boosted by their leveller, the Whites started to dominate the game then up to half time and following the restart, King and Hall combined once again for the former to fire home from ten yards out.

And although the hosts pressed for an equaliser inside the remainder of the game, David Lee and Tony Kelly's charges managed the game well and come the final whistle, picked up three points which saw them move ahead of their opponents on goal difference.

Speaking following the final whistle, head coach Lee said, "It was extremely pleasing to see the way the players managed the game, knowing when to play quick and then slow it down.

"There weren't too many chances in the second half, though our fitness levels were pleasing which made us stronger in the latter stages of the game.

"The character and desire of the players was also first class again today and Earing, Morris and Edwards were tough tackling and excellent throughout, while Andrew Taylor and Harry Charsley both played, gaining fitness levels.

"We're delighted to now be top of the league and their work rate deserves a lot of credit."
