I've spent most of my adult making fun of religion,and its coats of many colours.
Nuns look ridiculous,bishops likewise. Monks,Sikhs,orthodox Jews,the list is endless.

Point is he knows he is courting a populist line - perhaps with a coup in mind - and was deliberately trying to wind people up because divisiveness has worked for Trump and it worked for the Leave campaign. Question is when will folk get smart enough to see past the soundbites as that trick is starting to wear thin seeing that neither the Leave campaign nor Trump have delivered.

He's not a comedian, he's a politician. Whether or not it was a joke is questionable (hardly the height of wit if it was), but the point is what was his motivation for writing it?
