As Wanderers go in search of another Championship upset at Stoke City tonight, Phil Parkinson has urged his team to stick to their game-plan.

After turning heads with a 1-0 victory against Derby County at the weekend, Bolton travel to another of the promotion favourites looking to capitalise on the Potters’ unsteady start to the season.

Confidence levels were high at a buoyant Lostock training ground yesterday but Parkinson is keen to see players stay on message.

“We have got to use that game against Derby as a confidence-booster,” he told The Bolton News. “We got that result because we did what we set out to do.

“Every game has got key areas, different things you have to execute to get the win. We know what we did right against Derby and what we will have to get right against Stoke.

“We won’t go there by chance and expect to get a result, we’ll be concentrating on key factors we feel can help us win the game.”

Parkinson delayed naming his team yesterday to make some last-minute fitness checks on the players who played on Saturday but has not ruled out making changes to a winning team.

“That’s a decision we have to make,” he said. “We haven’t named the team this morning as we normally would, we’ll have a staff meeting, speak to the physio department and Nick Allamby so that we’ve looked at everyone.

“We have got two massive games now before the international break and what a massive opportunity we’ve got.

“We have to make sure that we make this count. We can’t start patting ourselves on the back over one good result. We have to go again and find some consistency, which is vital in the Championship.”

One player who will not be involved is goalkeeper Ben Alnwick, who will be missing for a couple of weeks with a minor tear in his groin.

“It’s not too serious for Ben – but it would be touch-and-go for Stoke,” he said. “We don’t feel under pressure to rush him because Remi Matthews has come in and done well. That’s why we signed him, we’ve got a lot of confidence in him.”
