I'd like to just go back to the story of the little Syrian boy who drowned. It's not lost on me how horrific that is and if he'd have made it to North East Nelson I would have put him up and looked after him, no question.
As a father or mother you've fled the absolute horrifying war in Syria for self preservation for you and your family and made your way to the very west of Turkey. You're in no immediate danger in west Turkey but obviously are quite desperate.
Do you as a father or mother put your young family who is in no immediate danger on a dinghy (yes that's a 'dinghy') to try and get to a small Greek island where you'll still be homeless and in no immediate danger?

I suppose it depends.
If you were being told in Turkey that you weren't wanted because there was no room for you and your family but you heard that Germany would welcome you with open arms and the only way to get there was via the Greek Islands, it's possibly a risk you'd take.
Especially if the guy you'd paid to get you there was guaranteeing you passage on a safe boat which you'd board "by getting on this dinghy" and rowing out to it.
I don't know all the facts and nor does anybody else who's commenting on here from the safety of their comfy homes in England but one thing's for sure - these people are desperate.
And desperate people aren't always in the best frame of mind for making important decisions.

I agree, but in the interim have to help those in crisis surely?
