KEN Anderson expects to bring positive news with the imminent release of Wanderers’ financial accounts.
Papers for the financial year ending June 2017 have now been filed at Companies House in time to meet with EFL deadlines.
And that means Whites fans will soon get their first look at the progress made during Anderson’s early days as sole owner.
Speaking to The Bolton News last week, the Bolton chairman hoped people would be encouraged by the direction the club was taking.
“They will certainly look better than the previous ones,” he said of the accounts. “And when you look at the sections where we have brought them right up to date, the progress in enormous.
“Debt levels will be the lowest for many years. Revenues are up. There is a lot to be pleased about. Of course there is still plenty of work to do, but I hope they will reflect the very hard work which has gone on right throughout the club.”
Wanderers have done their chances of staying in the Championship no harm with a run of one defeat in six games, moving half a dozen points clear of the bottom three.
Anderson is confident the club will avoid a return to League One but forecasts the financial impact of relegation has increased.
“I was speaking to Shaun Harvey the other day and we think the gap between the Championship and League One now is worth £7million when you take into consideration the TV money, commercial and people coming into the ground,” he said. “Let me be absolutely clear – I don’t think we will go down but in the worst case scenario, just as we did last time, we’d manage it. We’d be OK.
“As with most things at a football club, it comes down to player salaries.
“I’ve had to keep an eye on the length of contracts, make sure there are relegation clauses, but I think you’ve got to look at signing players which other clubs would want to buy. You have to look for that other outlet. I think clubs in the Premier League are starting to do that now.”
