Found this photo of ex Wanderer Sam Marsh, and immediately thought of Wessy. All he needs is the hanky on his head. Very Happy

Big Sur update coming tomorrow. I'm getting way too excited.

Big Sur update was a bit of a disaster last night, with the updates failing all over the world. I went to bed after three attempts.
Apple seem to have sorted themselves out overnight, and I'm up to date now.

Saw a cockney on TV today making a winkle sandwich. Still not completely over it.

Some things are hard to unsee.

I don't usually add new content to this thread but what the devil is considered newsworthy these days as today we've had the BBC being PC about a pop song of over 30 YEARS ago, and two social media spats, one over two Wags having an argument and nasty comments over a Bake Off decision???

Have we been dumbed down so much that this is all that seems to matter to most people these days?

I know loads of stuff doesn't interest people but is some self-entitled wag accusing another self-entitled wag of something petty within even their own little worlds that big a deal to the rest of us or trolls saying nasty things on Twitter to some random woman from a meaningless TV competition show what people want to know about and fill their lives with?

Apparently it must be!

Sometimes you just have to take a deep breath, and wonder what the hell is going on. I keep a little box of ping pong balls by my chair, and these are hurled, when the need arises, at the tv. Very satisfying, but I'm thinking of moving on to something more substantial. Socks, possibly.
Nice to see you in my thread though Sluffy. It's a bit like seeing Jacob Rees-Mogg in the bookies.

Well seeing you hadn't come to my thread which to be honest I posted as an homage to you.

Very disappointed I was too!

I even posted about Jacob Rees-Mogg in it as well!

Don't get me started on the Beano. Or the Dandy, Topper, Beezer, Whizzer and Chips, Sparky, the Lion, and so many others.
Had a soft spot for The Eagle, due to Dan Dare and its latterly shiny paper. Should have kept them, they'd be worth a few bob.

Bonce's own personal thread. Volume VI - Page 11 Calvadauge CALVA D'AUGE

Calva D'Auge has been declared to run in the following race:

Thursday 26 November
2.41 Taunton - Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 2m3f

There are 16 runners and Mr Angus Cheleda (claims 7lbs) is booked to ride.

Paul Nicholls says he is pleased to be able to run Calva D'Auge again. Paul says after a dry ten days or so, there is little heavy ground available for Calva D'Auge, so he has stepped him up in trip instead. Paul thinks this race is competitive and, on decent ground, Calva D'Auge could be vulnerable to some speedier horses. Paul says he hopes Calva D'Auge runs well, but he would like to make it quite clear that conditions are not likely to be in his favour on Thursday, although the ground is expected to be perfectly safe (currently good, good to soft in places). Paul wants to run him as he is a very enthusiastic work horse at home, and he feels a race would benefit him far more than doing a piece of work.

Great.

I thought he might be placed so I was really surprised he won.

He won three of his six races last season.

Opened at 10/1 and drifted out. Clearly surprised a few other people. Won going away too. Be a lot shorter next time. Very Happy

Gylo has been declared to run in the following race:

Tuesday 1 December
2.00 Southwell - Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 2m

There are 14 runners and Harry Skelton rides.

Dan Skelton says Gylo is back in good form at home after missing his last intended race, having knocked himself schooling. Dan says he has schooled well since then and he is ready to make a start over hurdles. Dan says Gylo will improve fitness-wise for his hurdling debut, after over a year off the course. Dan thinks this race should bring Gylo on, both in terms of jumping experience and fitness, and he is looking forward to running him. Dan says the 122-rated Lucky One should be very hard to beat, but he hopes Gylo shows promise and can use this race as a stepping stone for the rest of the season.

Last of the four in the CAJUN. stable

Knowing you are sensitive to words/lyrics, I thought you might appreciate this clever poem by Gillian Clarke that links the difficult birth of a lamb on her farm in Wales with both Jesus' death/resurrection/rebirth and the struggle to  accomplish approval of The Good Friday Agreement, which is threatened by Brexit. Enjoy!

A Difficult Birth

An old ewe that somehow till this year
had given the ram the slip. We thought her barren.
Good Friday, and the Irish peace deal close,
and tonight she’s serious, restless and hoofing the straw.
We put off the quiet supper and bottle of wine
we’d planned, to celebrate if the news is good.

Her waters broke an hour ago and she’s sipped
her own lost salty ocean from the ground.
While they slog it out in Belfast, eight decades
since Easter 1916, exhausted, tamed by pain,
she licks my fingers with a burning tongue,
lies down again. Two hooves and a muzzle.

But the lamb won’t come. You phone for help
and step into the lane to watch for car lights.
This is when the whitecoats come to the women,
well meaning, knowing best, with their needles and forceps.
So I ease my fingers in, take the slippery head
in my right hand, two hooves in my left.

We strain together, harder than we dared.
I feel a creak in the limbs and pull till he comes
in a syrupy flood. She drinks him, famished, and you find us
peaceful, at a cradling that might have been a death.
Then the second lamb slips through her opened door,
the stone rolled away.

Very nice. We need more poetry on here. I'll add one by Stevie Smith. It reminds me of someone.

The Face.

There is a face I know too well,
A face I dread to see,
So vain it is, so eloquent
Of all futility.

It is a human face that hides
A monkey soul within,
That bangs about, that beats a gong,
That makes a horrid din.

Sometimes the monkey soul will sprawl
Athwart the human eyes,
And peering forth, will flesh its pads,
And utter social lies.

So wretched is this face, so vain,
So empty and forlorn,
You well may say that better far
This face had not been born.
