WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)

MATT GILKS…6.5.

Recovered from an early injury worry to take some good catches. Kept things nice, calm and simple at the back.

GETHIN JONES…7.5.

In a game of very fine margins he stepped up and made the difference. Defensively very sound with everything that came his way.

RICARDO SANTOS…7.

Engine is purring at the moment for Santos. Dominant against a physical side and covered well behind Baptiste.

ALEX BAPTISTE…6.5.

Cleared his lines, kept things simple. Put under pressure in possession more than he has been used to – but adapted accordingly.

DECLAN JOHN…6.5

Worked hard up and down the left and didn’t waste much possession despite conditions making a 10-yard pass somewhat of a lottery.

MJ WILLIAMS…6.5.

Thrives on the ugly stuff and had to dig deep to win a midfield battle that was not for the faint hearted.

KIERAN LEE…6.

Not able to live up to his normal impeccable standards in possession but helped ensure that once Bolton took the lead, they never looked like losing it.

NATHAN DELFOUNESO…6.

A couple of nice link-ups in the second half which helped get Wanderers moving forward, having spent a fair while on the fringes of the game.

ANTONI SARCEVIC…6.

Hard to mark after what was a fairly nondescript opening 25 minutes. Will be a big miss and not the way he wanted to spend his birthday.

DAPO AFOLAYAN…6.

Not an afternoon where he was able to be particularly flashy with the ball – but dug in and created the goal.

EOIN DOYLE…6.

Chances at a premium, this was one of those days where Doyle’s main work was to close down and keep defenders under pressure.

Subs: Isgrove 7, 26 (for Sarcevic) – Got through a tremendous amount of graft.

Gnahoua 6, 64 (for Afolayan) – Kept the work-rate up.

Elbouzedi 81 (for Doyle) – Some promising work late on.

Not used: Tutte, Miller, Brockbank, Thomason.

Port Vale (4-4-2): Brown; Mills, Legge, Smith, Crookes; Worrall, Joyce, Conlon, Hurst; Rodney, Swan.

Subs: Robinson 31 (for Swan), Amoo 69 (for Hurst), Oyeleke 80 (for Joyce), Cullen 80 (for Rodney), Taylor 80 (for Mills).

Not used: Brisley, Scott.

Referee: Craig Hicks 7/10. Didn’t have any major decisions to make but went about his business with minimal fuss. No complaints here.
