bolton - 'Found a way' - Luton boss Edwards' verdict on win at Bolton 17653585

Luton boss Rob Edwards was pleased to get “over the line” after a tough test against Wanderers in the FA Cup.

The Whites went ahead through Dion Charles but the visitors hit back through Tahith Chong and Chiedozie Ogbene to book their place in the next round.

Edwards was pleased with the response to going behind but felt his side could have been more “ruthless” during the opening 45 minutes.

“There were elements of the performance I wasn’t happy with, and elements I was very happy with it,” he said.

“I was really pleased to come back from 1-0 down, I thought we showed lots of good stuff in the first half and could have scored more goals, could have been more ruthless.

“We were a little bit open on transition and they had a good plan, when we were pressing, to miss the press. They were good and difficult to play against, and I thought we got a bit sloppy.

“There were too many times where we maybe took an extra touch than we normally would. You can’t do that, they are a good team and they are used to winning.

“Overall, tonight was about winning and that is what I challenged the players to do before the game, so I can’t criticise them.

“I would never come out here and criticise them anyway but there were areas we could have been better in, and they will know that.”

The Hatters now face a trip to Everton or Crystal Palace in the fourth round depending on Wednesday night’s result at Goodison Park.

“We can never drop (the standards). I think, in the two games, we have at times,” Edwards continued.

“It is not a conscious thing but we are at full tilt in every Premier League game, we have to be. Whether we lost a bit of an edge in these two games, I don’t know.

“But the players have found a way so we have got to credit them. Tonight was about winning and there are always upsets.

“It could easily have been - a cold night, snow, at their place and they go 1-0 up – but in the end we got over the line and we have all got to be pleased with that.”
