bolton - Blackpool boss Critchley on win against Bolton and Santos red 17786908

Blackpool boss Neil Critchley hailed his side’s character following their comeback against Wanderers.

George Thomason had put the Whites in front but the Seasiders hit back through Jake Beesley and Marvin Ekpiteta.

Things got worse for Ian Evatt’s side after the break when Ricardo Santos was sent off for a foul on Kyle Jospeh in the box and Beesley slotted home from 12 yards. Jordan Gabriel wrapped up the result after a clinical counter attack.

“Coming from behind, as we did last week, shows the character of the group,” said Critchley after the final whistle.

“I thought we played with great spirit and got our just rewards for commitment, effort, being there for each other and ability. Everyone put in a really good performance today.”

He continued: “We had a couple of moments before their goal. We had been threatening on the break.

“Their goal, a bit of misfortune for us when he makes a pass and it drops for him. It is a good strike from Thomason, he is a very good player. But our response was very good.

“If a result and performance like this cant give us belief for the rest of the season, then nothing will.

“It shows what we are capable of. Our record against the top six is very good, we have picked up points again.”

Santos’ red card was a major talking point. It was the skipper’s first game back in the side following a calf injury.

“The sending off, it goes in our favour,” said Critchley. “It is about time one of those went for us.

“If you look at the decision that went against us against Peterborough, and the penalty that wasn’t given last week, we probably deserved something like that.”

The result sees Blackpool move within four points of the play-offs, while Wanderers remain in third place.
