Matt Mills praised his teammates’ resolve as Wanderers picked up a point against Millwall on Saturday afternoon, but admitted his disappointment that the Whites were unable to capitalise on their opportunities and emerge victorious in the capital.

On an afternoon which saw Bolton take an early lead through Lukas Jutkiewicz, the frontman’s spot kick was saved by Lions’ keeper before Martyn Woolford snatched an equalising goal eight minutes from time.

Despite ultimately feeling aggrieved to have been denied all three points in south-east London, Mills believes that the determined performance shown by the team is one which they will take confidence from.

“We’re disappointed to have only left with a point, especially given that we missed the penalty,” he said following the final whistle. “I thought we dominated the game in and out of possession, so I think frustrated is the word to sum it up.

“Given the situation that ourselves and Millwall are in, The Den is never an easy place to come.

“I feel that lesser teams would have crumbled under the pressure they put us under, so fair play to the lads in the latter stages because they were in the ascendancy.

“We’ll feel sorry for ourselves a little, but we’ll dust ourselves off because we’ve got 15 games left and it’s important that we pick up points.”

With clashes against Watford and local rivals Blackburn at the Reebok Stadium next up for the Whites, Mills stressed the importance of making home advantage count.

“I think in terms of our home form, although the results haven’t necessarily been there, the performances have been really good,” he explained.

“If we just keep doing as we have been doing, I’m confident that we’ll start picking up more wins, hopefully starting this weekend against Watford.”
