Giles Coke stressed how important it is for Wanderers to learn from their midweek defeat against Ipswich Town as the Whites’ away blues continued on Tuesday.

Having seen Eidur Gudjohnsen, Tim Ream, Rochinha and Craig Davies all miss good opportunities for Neil Lennon’s side, a mis-hit Jay Tabb strike decided the tie in the hosts favour on what was ultimately a frustrating night at Portman Road.

But while Coke could not hide his disappointment at the result considering the chances Bolton created, he insisted there were positives to take from the performance before urging his team-mates to finish the season on a high.

“We’re devastated, all the boys are so disappointed but that’s football,” said the midfielder. “We created enough chances to get something out of the game but if you don’t take them, you don’t win.

“But Ipswich is a hard place to come. On a Tuesday night as well, it’s a long way to go. To put in a performance like we did - we can take something from the game.

“If we came here, didn’t create anything and played badly then fair enough. But it wasn’t like that so that is why we are even more disappointed.

“It was horrible to lose to a goal like that; especially the way he has scuffed it into the ground. But I’d take it if we could score one like that but it just doesn’t seem to fall for us.

“We had some really good chances and when you have chances like that you have to take them. Unfortunately we didn’t but we have to move on.”

Coke continued: "We are not happy settling for 18th. We want to push on and the gaffer wants us to win every game.

“He’s a winner and doesn’t accept failure. He was happy with how we played but we have to work on our end-product and we have to score. It’s all very well playing well but you have to put the ball in the back of the net.

"We want to win as many games as possible between now and the end of the season, build some momentum and hopefully then take it into next season.”
