Neil Lennon reflected on an evening of mixed emotions, as Bolton were held to a 1-1 home draw against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday.

Frederic Bulot gave the visitors an early lead only for Adam Le Fondre, after some persistent play from Barry Bannan, to level the scores ten minutes from time.

And speaking after the game the manager felt his side would have been worthy winners had Liam Feeney capped a fine team move with what would have been a late winner.

“Charlton scored with pretty much their first meaningful attack,” Lennon said. “We should have dealt with the first ball a lot better.

“We felt the groans at half time were a little bit harsh because I felt that some of our build up play was good. We had ten shots on goal in the first half, so we were at least having a go.

“I wasn’t pleased with our end product and final ball. At time our play in the final third was loose.

“We dominated the second half and restricted Charlton to one or two counter attacks, though they did look quite dangerous.

“I was just waiting on us scoring, because we had a lot of the play. We took our time in getting the goal.

“It’s a source of frustration tonight that we haven’t won the game. We deserved to win it. Our play was good at times and if Liam scores at the end we come away with three points.

The game also saw a return to first team action for Mark Davies, who appeared from the bench midway through the second half.

Lennon added: “We saw a brief cameo of what we’ve missed from Mark. He’s an excellent player and he brings the best out of the other players around him.

“That’s a real positive for us tonight and he’ll be better for that run out.”
