Emile Heskey believes Wanderers can push for promotion next season IF Neil Lennon gets what he wants this summer.

The former England striker confirmed he is close to signing a new contract with the Whites and has high hopes the club can avoid the struggles of this season.

“We’ll be sitting down very soon and discussing it further,” he said.

“The manager has said he wants me to stay, and I’d love to stay here.

"The fans have been great and the players are exceptional.

“Next season the manager is looking to push for promotion as long as he can get in the players who can take the club forward.”

After seeing Bournemouth all-but book their place in the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Wanderers on Monday night, Heskey reckons Eddie Howe’s side can make a good account of themselves among the big boys.

“Bournemouth play some great football and gave as good as they got against Liverpool in the League Cup,” he said.

“They pass the ball around well and they’ll do well in the Premier League.”
