Making his debut for the club in Saturday’s victory over Wolves at Macron Stadium, Derik Osede was delighted to mark his Bolton bow with all three points.

Sidelined through injury since the Whites’ final pre-season fixture against Charlton, the defender – who joined Wanderers on a three-year deal from Real Madrid in the summer – was pleased with both his own performance and the display of the team as a whole.

Speaking to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] following the final whistle, the centre-half said: “I am very happy with my debut – I think the team played very well and we got the three points which was the most important thing for us.

“It felt very good to be out on the pitch – of course, I was not happy to pick up an injury just before the start of the season, but these things happen in football and I have to be ready for that.

“It was important for me to keep my mind strong and work to get back as quickly as possible.

“I felt very good working alongside Prince and also Moxey and Wilson too – we have two very good and strong full-backs, and I think we are working very well together.

There is a lot of competition in defence, but it is good for everyone because we have to show to the gaffer that we deserve the position in the team.”

With Bolton’s rearguard only breached from the penalty spot with former Whites loanee Benik Afobe firing home from 12 yards, the general defensive performance of the side was one which pleased the Spaniard.

“We defended well against Wolves – they have very good strikers but the team worked very hard together to win the game and make sure that they didn’t have too many opportunities.

“I have had to learn very quickly over here because it is a very different game to back in Spain – it is more physical, but the more games I play in the better I will get.

“I feel that I am ready to play though and I think that showed today - the pace is quicker here and more attacking, but I really like the English style of football.

“We look very good, but I think the team have been playing so far this season and have been very unlucky.

“We have good strikers and we can make goals, so it was very nice to see them score today.”

Reflecting upon his time with the club so far, he said: “It’s a pleasure to play here in Macron Stadium and in front of the Bolton supporters.

“It’s different, living in England, but I’m very happy here and I’m excited for the future.”
