Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

This bloke, Tinashe Chikoto, has just been jailed for less than two years for killing a mother of two on Bow Street in Bolton.

This woman, Louise Wolstenholme, was clearly hammered as she had just downed eight double vodkas and fell in the middle of the road. A good few people drove around her and left her there before Chikoto comes along and ploughs into her, dragging her along for 100 metres. He then pulls over into a side street and sees this woman underneath his car. Instead of phoning an ambulance, he jumps in another car and pisses off, leaving her for dead. He then rings the police to report his car stolen, then rings them back to retract it.

When the police finally pick him up, the woman had been trapped underneath the car for an hour and a half. He claimed he thought he'd hit a bag of rubbish.

He admitted causing death by careless driving, causing death while uninsured, driving without insurance and perverting the course of justice.

All this begs the question, is a total of 22 months a fair sentence?

Also, what are your views on the people that just drove around the woman, leaving her in the middle of the road, in harms way?

His crime wasn't murder though so all in all I think the sentence is about fair given the circumstances.

Folk driving around her and not reporting it or stopping is a typical example of "diffusion of responsibility theory" (psychology 101) whereby people in a group assume someone else is doing something about it.
There's a lot of it about.

Surely there's a case there for manslaughter though?

I find it strange that the prosecution didn't push it. Yet another case of the CPS taking the easy option I wonder ?
