WANDERERS are set to appoint former Bristol City chief executive officer John Pelling as their new financial director.

In what will be the first new appointment to the board since the joint takeover, Pelling will step into the role previously occupied by Anthony Massey, who tendered his resignation last month.

Pelling had a short spell in charge of day-to-day operations at Aston Gate between June and September last season.

He does boast more than 15 years of board experience, however, the vast majority coming as a finance director at Nottingham Forest.

Pelling also spent a short time in charge of finances at Sheffield Wednesday and previously spent more than a decade at accountancy firm KPMG.

It has emerged that Trevor Birch, previously tipped for a place on the Wanderers board, has been working on a consultancy basis and is not currently being considered for a full-time post.

Wonder if this is why we haven't filed our accounts yet and also why we haven't done anything about the transfer embargo. Maybe things will start moving now - just thought

I for one certainly hope so. We really do need to get things moving on that front pronto.
