Announced overnight that this great sportsman has passed away.
He was a man who earned our respect and someone we should mourn for.
Rest in peace Muhammad.

Very sad.

Probably at one time the most known person on the entire planet!

The greatest boxer I've known.

RIP

True legend in an age where the word is bandied around frivolously. Used to love watching him on the Parkinson show, true chat show great moments.

RIP to the man who once justifiably called himself "King Of The World" and will always be known as "The Greatest". A remarkable man, athlete and icon who will never be forgotten.

RIP to a great man, the greatest all round best boxer with a great will.

It just makes me sad that a fit, great man full of life, was struggling for a breath just before he died, he was one of them that you would thought would last forever, I loved that ' when we were Kings' with Harry, what a remarkable man.

Parkinson loved having Ali on the show as well. I caught and interview on SSN this afternoon where they showed a few clips from Ali on Parkinson and I damned near bust a gut laughing at them both. They really hit it off and it was obvious from Parkinson's tone and expression after the clips finished that he's going to miss the "The Greatest" a lot.

Great contribution to social reform and the first boxer to really hype fights - effectively giving boxing a new lease of life and creating the potential to earn big money and attract big audiences. Boxing owes him big time as does the civil rights movement.

Bit of a kerfuffle in the States when Donald Trump - who wants Muslims banned from entering the country - had the downright redneck audacity to pay tribute to the great man. Reminds me of a lot of British racists (Hate Muslims but not that one or this one or the nice man who I work with etc)

I remember getting up, or staying up late, to watch his fights on the tv, when I was a youngster. brilliant boxer, entertainer, and genuinely good man.
His suffering is over now, and I hope he rests in peace.

RIP. He truly was the greatest. We share the same birthday. I always used to say that I shared my birthday with the most famous man in the world and nine times out of ten, people would respond with..Muhammad Ali?

Reg Gutteridge, the late, great ITV boxing commentator recounted a tale where he was in America interviewing Ali and discussing his fights with British boxers, Henry Cooper, Joe Bugner and Richard Dunn.
Dunn was Ali's last KO and although outclassed he showed his Yorkshire grit by getting up every time Ali put him down, until the ref stopped the fight.
Gutteridge mentioned to Ali that Bradford Council had named a Sports Centre after Richard Dunn and quick as a flash, Ali retorted, " Is it still standing? " Brilliant!
This clip highlights the knock downs and you can see what ali was getting at.
