Couldn't he have put this in consideration and set off a bit earlier when he planned his journey?!

The 3 P's come to mind which Dave should know what these are through his experience of fixing cake and pasty factories!   

He should have come to Bolton the night before and had a night in the hotel at the Macron to save on all this disappointment so far.
