Jem Karacan believes he can play a bigger part for Wanderers when they land back in the Championship next season.

A title-winner with Reading in 2012, the midfielder now has his eyes on returning to the second tier with the Whites after a brief taste of first team action under Phil Parkinson.

Karacan signed two month-long deals as emergency cover and ended up playing an important part in two victories over Port Vale and Peterborough United to secure automatic promotion in a thrilling campaign finale.

The 28-year-old is out of contract after leaving Turkish giants Galatasaray and hoping he can earn a permanent deal to feature more prominently next season.

“I’d love to play Championship football with Bolton Wanderers,” he told The Bolton News. “I’ve won it before, I know what it’s all about, so hopefully that experience can help the club.

“I’ve been in Turkey the last couple of years but I’ve seen what the club has been through. Even still, you come here, play on the pitch and sample just what this place is about – it really is massive.

“I’ve just loved being back home so if there’s a contract for me here, I would sign it.”

Karacan began training with Wanderers after Darren Pratley was forced to shelve a comeback attempt to have more surgery in February.

Despite making a good first impression, it was only a month later Karacan was able to make his debut when the Whites took advantage of a Football League loophole to secure his services on a short-term basis.

“The club has been through a lot of stuff, so just getting me in the door was difficult enough,” he admitted.

“At times it didn’t look like it was going to happen but the chairman, the gaffer and Lee Anderson worked their magic and told me to trust them, I did, and luckily we got the thumbs up just before the Fleetwood game.

“When my month was up it was a case of waiting again, and it was tough, but everyone has been brilliant with me and that’s why I think it would be great to stay with Bolton Wanderers for a bit longer.

“I’d like to reward the club for showing faith in me and offering me a chance to be a part of this success and play a part when they get into the Championship”

i would sign if we can, he has proven Championship quality from his time at Reading and he is only 28. Wages i suppose may be the stumbling block as i imagine he was on good money in Turkey.
