Karl Henry has called on all at Bolton Wanderers to stand strong together amid a period of recent unfavourable results.
Speaking to bwfc.co.uk, the 35-year-old reflected on Tuesday’s defeat to Millwall alongside looking forward to the final stages of the season.
“It’s a game we wanted to win but we came up second best,” Henry told the club.
“I thought we had good spells in the first half and created good opportunities, maybe more than we have in recent games.
“We got punished though for not taking our chances shortly before half-time.
“We’re all disappointed but going into Saturday’s game feeling down and disappointed isn’t going to do us any favours.”
The Trotters make the trip to South Yorkshire this weekend to face Barnsley in a crunch match at the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship, and the experienced midfielder says a quick response is needed from the team.
“You go through these periods in the season and unfortunately we’re going through a bad time now where results haven’t gone for us.
“Losing any game is always a horrible feeling. We’re all competitors and are fighting for ourselves, our families and the club. It’s our livelihoods and everyone is desperate to stay in the league.
“This division is relentless and the games come thick and fast - we need to be dust ourselves off and go again.”
With four games left remaining in 2017/18, Henry insists that the Whites’ destiny is in their own hands as the club look to secure another year of Sky Bet Championship football.
“When I joined the club at the end of September last year, we were already written off.
“We’ve fought hard though to put ourselves in a position where we can stay up.
“The belief is there amongst us that we can do it. This is a good group of players and we have a really good team spirit.”
