Forgot about the parachute payments Embarassed

Plus of course they're a huge club in terms of fanbase etc so I suspect we couldn't match the wage if it gets that far but would Wyke settle for at least another year in the third tier? Lest we forget Villa were certain they'd return to the prem this time and since they failed they're pretty much forced to sell because they're already violating FFP. I realise the scale of the challenge facing Sunderland is smaller in terms of what they'd have to pay and the competitiveness of the division but they'd still have to be careful not to gamble too much on being promoted at the 1st attempt.

This should remind us how lucky we were to get promoted back to the championship on our first try!

I'm fairly certain our parachute payments had run out by then.

Didn't they run out at the time Davies decided to pull the plug?

I believe so mate. When we went down the relegated teams got two years payments. I think it was the season following (2013) or 2014 when it was extended to four years and also greatly increased in the light of a new TV deal.

Following the 2015-2016 season, when we got £10.5 million.

Yes the season Eddie Davies signed  Ben Amos on a lucrative contract in July and then wouldn't pay the club's tax bill 5 months later in December was our final season of parachute payments. We got 4 seasons parachute money, that was the 4th season.

Did Eddie think we just needed an expensive goalkeeper to get promoted and when it became clear we werent getting promoted decided to fuck the club off ?

I've a feeling he would have paid the tax bill without question if we were 15 points clear at the top of the league and heading back to the Premier League tv money

Looks like the Wyke thing is coming to a head one way or the other today, but I was encouraged to see Parky confirm he has back up plans if it falls through. Sunderland can easily outbid us if they want him enough.

Would love to know who Parky's other striker targets are.

Hobbs is an unusual signing. Allardyce tried to sign him for us in 2005 but he went to Liverpool. "Injury prone" sums up this poor lads career since then so I'm surprised he was only given 5 minutes or so against Girona.

He was linked with Everton for about 6 million a couple of weeks back. So doubt he has come for a trial with us.

We seem to be in for injury prone players so I don't think that will put Parky off, but I am worried about the escalating price. To me it doesn't make sense to pay top dollar for a lower league striker who hasn't played at Championship level especially in a time when our biggest battle is to achieve financial stability. Surely there must be other options at a more affordable price?

The injury should reduce the price

Maybe but I'd have thought that Sunderland can afford to be less risk-averse than us seeing as they're rolling in money, and Bradford will wring every last penny they can get out of the deal. Perhaps one thing in our favour is that Parky knows the Bradford board and maybe they'll cut him some slack, but I just don't think they love him that much to turn down a bigger bid.

Apparently he ruined Wayne Rooney's full debut for DC United by scoring a hat trick yesterday. Rooney was booked and then subbed.

Ellis has pulled the plug at Sunderland so they're very much not rolling in money. Wyke wise, I think you’d be surprised how little a million pounds gets you for a striker these days. Look at the prices being quoted for Jack Marriott say.
