With this evening’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Doncaster Rovers just hours away, we have profiled six players who have played for both Wanderers and tonight’s opponents; including two from the current squad.

Ali Crawford

Currently on his way back from a pretty length injury, Wanderers’ attacking-midfield ace was a deadline day arrival from Doncaster Rovers earlier in the season.

Signing for Doncaster from Scottish side Hamilton Academical in July 2018, Crawford made 42 appearances (3 goals) for the club last season as they reached the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Semi-Finals.

After coming through the youth system with Hamilton, Crawford made his professional debut in January 2010 and went onto make 268 appearances (39 goals) before a move to England.

Remi Matthews

The first choice stopper here at Wanderers, Matthews first arrived at the University of Bolton Stadium in August 2018 on a loan move from Norwich City that was eventually made permanent.

The goalkeeper who turned 26 yesterday, has made 51 appearances for the club and will most likely mark his 52nd appearance for the football club at Doncaster this evening.

Coming through the youth ranks at Norwich, Matthews never made a senior appearance for the Canaries and spent a lot of his time under contract at Carrow Road, on loan at other clubs.

In March 2016, he joined Doncaster on loan until the end of the 2015/16 season and he made nine appearances before spending the following campaign (2016/17) on loan at Hamilton Academical.

Abdoulaye Meite

The Ivory Coast international defender was brought to England in July 2006 to secure a move to Bolton Wanderers from French giants Marseille, and he went onto make 70 appearances under Sam Allardyce before a move to West Bromwich Albion for £2 Million in August 2008.

Not always playing regularly during three years at the Hawthorns, Meite spent time on loan back in France with Dijon before signing for Doncaster Rovers on a permanent basis in January 2014.

Spending just under eight months at the Keepmoat Stadium, he made 21 appearances (1 goal) before a move to OFI Crete.

Quinton Fortune

A man who made his name in the English game playing for Manchester United, the former South Africa international spent the 2006/07 season with Wanderers following his departure from Old Trafford.

Making seven appearances during the campaign, Fortune had spells in Italy and Belgium with Brescia and Tubize before signing for Doncaster Rovers in August 2009.

He too made just seven appearances for Doncaster, scoring one goal in the process before calling time on his professional career in 2010.

El Hadji Diouf

Regarded by many Bolton Wanderers supporters as a cult-hero, Diouf rose to prominence as part of the Senegalese national team that famously defeated World and European Champions France in the 2002 FIFA World Cup group stages.

Following the tournament, he signed for Liverpool for £10 Million from French side Racing Club Lens. Spending three years at Anfield, the final year was spent on loan with Wanderers and after a successful 2004/05 season he signed for the club on a permanent basis.

Going onto make 104 appearances (15 goals) for the club following his permanent switch in the summer of 2005, he had spells with Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers and Rangers before signing for Doncaster Rovers on a free transfer in October 2011.

Just under a year was spent at the Keepmoat Stadium, with the forward making 23 appearances (6 goals) before a move to Leeds United.

Robbie Blake

Blake was a July 2010 signing from Burnley, but the skilful forward made only 15 appearances (1 goal) before a June 2012 free transfer to Doncaster Rovers.

During two years in South Yorkshire, he made 14 appearances (1 goal) before hanging his boots up in 2014.

Starting his career with Darlington, he enjoyed five successful years with Bradford City (1997-2002) in a period where the club spent two years in the Premier League. Spells with Birmingham City and Leeds United followed as well as two spells with Burnley.

Highly regarded at Turf Moor, he made almost 300 appearances and helped the club to promotion to the top flight in 2009 after Play-Off Final victory against Sheffield United.
