Ian Evatt pleased with character against Wigan and Portsmouth 13650691

Ian Evatt is pleased Wanderers have become a tougher nut to crack – but admits there is still room for improvement.

The Whites have shown character to come from behind and claim a point twice in three days against Wigan and Portsmouth.

But despite the positives from those games, Evatt insists their goal is to win every time they step onto the pitch.

“We are well aware of the size of this football club and the expectancy that comes with it,” he told The Bolton News.

“We want to just win every game we play and when we don’t win, we are disappointed.

“But if you don’t win then don’t get beat, and too often this season we’ve chucked games away and lost games where we really shouldn’t have.

“Tonight was pleasing we didn’t do that but we know we can be better.”

Kieran Sadlier impressed at wing-back against Portsmouth, scoring from the penalty spot and testing the Pompey defence with plenty of crosses.

Evatt praised Sadlier for playing out of his natural position following injuries to Marlon Fossey and Lloyd Isgrove.

He added: “That’s not his natural position, wing-back. He is more of a forward player or a 10, but at the moment needs must.

“We’ve lost Marlon and we are a bit short with Izzy being out as well. We are a bit short on that right hand side and he filled in on the left on Saturday and did great.

“Kieran is one of those players where you can put him anywhere and he looks a natural.

“He is a very good football player, very technical and has dealt with the situation superbly. He hasn’t moaned, just got on with it and a very good penalty.”

The Bolton chief also singled out Elias Kachunga for praise following an impressive cameo off the bench.

The former Huddersfield man made an immediate impact, winning a penalty after he was tripped by Sean Raggett inside the box.

“We chucked Kacha in the deep end on Saturday,” said Evatt. “He has missed a long time through injury and those types of games are so fast that it just probably caught him out a little bit.

“But we think he is a really good player. We are really pleased with all of our players and he has shown tonight what he can do.

“He came on and impacted the game and that is what we require from the bench.”
