EFL pundits praise Bolton and Afolayan goal against Accrington Stanley 16076490

EFL pundit Matt Jarvis singled out Dapo Afolayan for praise after the 3-2 win against Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium.

Afolayan scored the winner 15 minutes from time, beating Toby Savin with a low drive after cutting in from the left.

Shaun Whalley had earlier opened the scoring before the Reds doubled their lead through a George Johnston own goal.

Whalley also had a header cleared off the line by Bolton skipper Ricardo Santos in what proved to be a turning point in the game.

The Whites got back on level terms through Harvey Rodgers’ own goal and then Kieran Lee’s close range finish.

Former West Ham and Wolves winger Jarvis was impressed by Afolayan’s winner, describing it as “a great finish”.

He believes Ian Evatt’s men can build on their impressive defensive numbers and push on in the coming weeks.

Speaking as a pundit on the EFL highlights show, he said: “I did not see this second half performance (coming).

“They haven’t scored that many goals recently, Accrington is always a hard place to go. But Bolton, if they can start scoring these goals – Afolayan scored the last goal, it was a great finish.

“If they can start scoring goals, they have the best defensive record in the league. They can really start building on that. And the finish (from Afolayan), cuts inside and it is a great finish.”

The result sees Wanderers climb back into the League One play-off places, while Accrington are 17th in the table.

Ian Evatt's men are back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome Burton Albion to the UniBol (KO 7:45pm).
