'It is possible' - Evatt on potential outgoings at Wanderers 17042603

Ian Evatt hasn’t ruled out further outgoings at Wanderers this summer but insists the club will not force out anyone.

MJ Williams joined League Two MK Dons a couple of weeks ago, while the likes of Kieran Lee, Elias Kachunga, Lloyd Isgrove and Joel Dixon departed at the end of their respective deals earlier this summer.

Evatt says every member of the squad knows where they stand ahead of the upcoming League One campaign.

When asked about potential outgoings, the manager said: “It is possible, you never know.

“The squad pretty much understands their position of where they are at with us right now. There may be one or two outgoings but we will see how that develops.

“It isn’t our way to force anybody out, it is always the player’s decision. We will see how things progress through August and into the end of the window.”

Wanderers have brought in Nathan Baxter, Joel Coleman, Josh Dacres-Cogley, Will Forrester, Dan Nlundulu, Zac Ashworth and now Carlos Mendes Gomes since the start of the window.

While Ashworth and Mendes Gomes only arrived in the past week, Evatt is confident they can get up to speed quickly.

“In years gone by, sometimes it has taken players longer to get up to speed,” he added.

“But as we have progressed up the pyramid, we are getting a higher quality and calibre of player who can take on information better and quicker. Then they can get used to what we do a lot quicker.

“I have seen some really positive signs in training, I think we are a team that is improving all the time and I am really pleased with what I saw against Everton.”

Both players came off the bench during the goalless draw against Sean Dyche’s Toffees on Tuesday night.

Evatt was pleased with his side’s display against their Premier League opponents and says the only thing missing was a goal.

“The first 15 or 20 minutes, we were a little bit erratic with our play,” he explained. “We weren’t reliable enough with the ball and could have been hurt a couple of times on the counter attack.

“Obviously, they have some wonderful players who do everything really well. But I thought as the half went on, we grew.

“Towards the end of the half, I thought we were on top and had really good chances to score. The disappointing and frustrating thing is once again we have failed to take those.

“Hopefully, we are waiting for the league campaign to start taking those opportunities! But we have to take great heart from the face that we are creating so much, which is a real positive.”

Evatt’s men are back at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon when they take on Championship outfit West Brom (3pm).
