A host of clubs are battling for the signature of Nicky Bailey, Sky Sports understands.

The 29-year-old is available on a free transfer after leaving Middlesbrough at the end of the season.

The former Charlton midfielder is now on the radar of a host of Championship clubs.

Relegated duo Reading and Queens Park Rangers, along with Ipswich, Burnley, Blackburn and Bolton are all understood to be keen on Bailey.

His former club Charlton are also monitoring the situation.

Most players are rejects for one reason or another. Allardyce did nothing but sign rejects.

A few years ago, Bailey was doing OK in the lower leagues and played as an attacking mid scoring loads from midfield. At Boro, Mowbray converted him to defensive mid and he did OK but stopped scoring as he was playing deeper (4 in 3 years) Now he's 29 and if there's any truth in this rumour I'd guess it would be as back up for Medo - either that or Holden is a write-off and Vela isn't progressing.

The difference with Allardyce's rejects is that they were World Cup and Champions League winners who in their later years had incredible amounts of skill to fall back on when their legs went.

Well were not going to get any players like that.

times have changed.

the players we'll be after will all be "rejects," or young players.

Sounds like his agent is talking him up!

I agree, whenever there's a championship player available we're one of the clubs linked. 90% of the time it's just the agent drumming up interest.

Never heard of him. If he is related to Bill then he should tell him to come home.

Stoke have shown an interest in former Fulham utility man Chris Baird. The Northern Ireland star, who can play in defence or midfield, is a free agent. West Brom, Crystal Palace and Bolton have also made enquiries.

Here are some rejects that may be of interest, but I guess they have higher aspirations than the Championship...
The Daily Mirror suggests that Aston Villa are prepared to listen to offers for Nathan Delfouneso and Barry Bannan, while The Sun claims that Tottenham are also planning a summer clearout - with Tom Huddlestone, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Scott Parker and Emmanuel Adebayor all available.
