Today is the 66th anniversary of the disaster in which 33 people died.

Every year this comes around and evokes a fair bit of passion. Sadness at the tragedy itself, irritation that it is rarely remembered in the local/regional media and memories of when the eastern half of Wigan came to watch the Wanderers before they had a half decent club of their own. Lot of Wiganers died that day.

Thankfully it was before my time but it never seems to get the coverage compared to other major disasters at sporting events.

R.I.P. to the poor Wanderers who never made it home that day.
