Wanderers are intent on strengthening their full-back positions this summer but have ruled out getting involved in the scramble for Leeds United’s Lee Peltier.

Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers are vying for the former Liverpool starlet, who looks set to quit Elland Road after a fall-out with the club earlier in the year.

Wanderers tried to take the 27-year-old on an emergency loan at the end of last season – keen to harness the fact he can play in any defensive position – but while they have again been linked with Peltier's services, the club are understood to be concentrating their efforts elsewhere for now.

Freedman is particularly keen to find a left-back after having his fingers burned last year when sole option Marc Tierney was ruled out for the season with a broken leg.

The Scot is concerned he does not have adequate cover in the position and sees Alex Baptiste and Tim Ream – who both filled in last term – as options elsewhere in the back four.

But while the Whites boss is searching for a left-back option, he has hinted financial demands he has encountered so far are out of the club’s budget.

Without generating cash from players sales this summer, Freedman is treading a careful line with the club’s spare cash under the very watchful eye of Financial Fair Play.

With a full month to go before full pre-season training, he has already landed five first team targets and is also monitoring players in Norway, Switzerland and Austria, who were heavily scouted last season.

“We’re looking to see if we can get value for money from those markets,” he told The Bolton News.

There are some interesting snippets in that story.
* Scouting full backs (plural) - not just a LB.
* Possibly still looking at the Swedish lad they sent back?
* Still focused on defence - which is surprising for a manager who spent his career as a striker
