Bolton Wanderers fans believe they are paying a reasonable price to watch their team — as a survey reveals that ticket prices across English football have rocketed.

The BBC Sport Price of Football study, which has analysed different prices across the whole football league, shows that the average price of the cheapest match day tickets in the English game has risen at almost twice the rate of the cost of living since 2011.

The cheapest matchday tickets for Whites fans start at £23, which is amongst the higher fees charged in the Championship,.

Fans of Watford, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Blackburn are able to see their teams for less than £15, and the average across the division for less than £20. But Whites fans appear to get a better deal when it comes to season tickets, with the cheapest priced at £304 — compared to rivals Brighton, Norwich, Bournemouth and Rotherham — who all charge more than £450 for their most reasonable tickets.

The most expensive season ticket a Wanderers fan can pick up is £474 — a figure dwarfed by fellow Championship sides Ipswich and Fulham, who charge more than £800 for their tickets.

Season tickets at the Macron are below average across the whole Championship division.

The survey also noted the price of purchasing a pie at football grounds — a staple for many fans — with Whites charging £2.90, compared to the £4.10 that Fulham fans are asked to fork out.

Averagely, fans in the division are paying more than £3 per pie, so Whites fans are getting a good deal.

Season ticket holder Adam Knowles, aged 26, from Bromley Cross, thinks the pricing at Wanderers is fair.

He said: “I think when you look at the prices other clubs are paying, it’s not too bad at Wanderers — they keep it pretty consistent.

“I think prices might have gone up a little bit in the last few years but the club obviously need more money — it’s not outrageous.”

“In terms of things like pies, some of the clubs down south are charging scandalous prices.”

Another regular visitor to the Macron is the former Mayor of Bolton, Cllr John Walsh. He said: “I think the ticket pricing at Bolton is reasonable and the club does everything practicable in the current financial climate.

“I think football fans will pay money to see quality and, hopefully, with the new manager, we will begin to see some success come back to the club.”

The survey also noted that Wanderers charge £44.99 for adult replica shirts and £34.99 for juniors, which is just above the average for the division, standing at £42.79 and £32.96 respectively. Richard Gough, commerical head at Wanderers, said: “We remain committed to offering affordable, live football.

“Our season ticket direct debit scheme now has 55 per cent of season ticket holders spreading the cost interest-free throughout the course of each season.

“Our guarantee means that it will always be the most affordable way of following the club. We also continue to offer a number of ticketing initiatives to drive up attendances.”

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

I wouldn't pay a pound to watch a game under freedman. It is only value for money if the product is up to scratch. Hopefully Lennon will make it a price worth paying. Btw £4.10 for a pie at Fulham is just plain fucking scandalous
