Liam Feeney was delighted to mark his return to the Bolton Wanderers starting line-up with a brace as the Whites ran out 3-0 winners over Cardiff City.

The 27-year-old’s two goals were his first for the club, and, having sat out Neil Lennon’s side last two matches, the wideman was pleased to play his part in what proved to be a comprehensive win.

“I’ve been out of the team for a couple of weeks so it was not only important for me that I had a good game, but to be part of a good team performance as well,” said Feeney. “I am really pleased that I got my two goals, but even more pleased that it helped us get the win.

“I thought we looked really good. Cardiff are a very good team. They’ve come down from the Premier League and have a very good squad. We knew it was going to be a tough game but I thought we were excellent tonight and worthy winners.

“The manager wants us to show more composure in front of goal. Trying not to snatch at things and to be more relaxed and I think we took that into it tonight.

“We’ve been playing well for a few weeks now under the new manager and it has looked like coming, that we could beat someone well. We’re pleased that it came tonight.”

After being given a standing ovation by supporters when he was substituted in the second-half, Feeney was quick to thank the Macron Stadium crowd, before promising them a repeat performance in Friday night’s local derby against Wigan Athletic.

“The fans were fantastic, the reception I got when I came off was something that will live long in the memory and it really touched me,” Feeney said. “I am pleased that I gave them a good performance.

“The club is really unified at the moment and the fans are really backing us. Even when we are up against it the fans are sensing it and singing louder, which helps get us over the line.

“They have been excellent and hopefully we can have the same again against Wigan on Friday.”
