Bolton wanderers playing Aston Villa in the semi final off the cup,at Wembley.
With the match in to extra time and the match scoreless at 0-0 Eidur Gudjohnson controls the ball with great skill if my memory serves me well he had taken the ball past the sprawling David James.
Eidur could of attempted to shoot from what was an acute angle.

However he laid a perfect ball to Dean Holdsworth, not even a Villa player on the line he could of walked it in.

In that split second he lent back and blazes over from ten yards.

What were your thoughts. Our first major final for 42 years.gone.

I have never seen that miss on video or you tube since.Holdsworth was a decent signing for Bolton, however that miss makes me breath heavily crushing my chest at the thought.

Twat!

I was there.

I couldn't believe it.

Worst miss ever.

Should have been in the final.

Thanks Owen Dean.

Was at the match, first time I've ever watched a replay of that miss.  Even worse than I thought it was.

Chalk me up as another one who was there and couldn't believe that he missed.

Anybody else remember Paul Comstive doing something very similar against Tranmere in the Play Off Final a few years previously?

Dean holdsworth was managing Cambridge (or was it Lincoln, I suppress the occasion) when Bath City played them. I couldn't look him in the eye, my manager asked why, I showed him that video. Never forget

Top guy Holdsworth. Met him in the Jacuzzi at the Lancaster House Hotel. He claimed Eidur's pass was shit.

He actually came up with the old 'I made too good a contact with the ball' shit.
It still hurts.

i'm 43! we've had some big disappointments at Wembley haven't we? The Watford play-off final also springs to mind, we were very poor that day.
I'm proud to say that since the Sherpa Van final against Torquay the only big game i have missed was the League Cup final against Boro and that was only because the club made a right balls up of the ticket sales.

I was there with my Dad and we were in mid-air celebrating when that shot was still rising - more in complete disbelief. It kind of summed up Holdsworth tho!

.......it gets more painful the more times you watch it!

Holdsworth was a good player for BWFC, and brilliant in the dressing room by all accounts.

no point being brilliant in the dressing room though is it? He probably regaled them with tales about him and Lyndsey Dawn Mckenzie, the dirty bugger Very Happy

You bellend. Of course having people in the squad who can bring the team together is important. It's called team spirit.

I'm guessing there wasn't much of that under sour-faced Dougie.

team spirit counts for nowt when you can't actually play football as was the case with dirty Deano.

Ouch. I'd forgotten that one. Worrying thing is that 14 years later Eidur may be playing for us again.
