A casual look at the teamsheet for the U21's against Reading would have popped up the name Matija Boben. But just who is Matija Boben?
Born on February 26, 1994, the 20 year old Slovenian is a centre back who represented his country as an U17 player. Presently on the books at NK Ivancna Gorica, he has been given the opportunity to impress our coaching staff as a part of our development squad.
Although known as a solid, if unspectacular defender, his outing against Reading revealed a willingness to assist the attack when the opportunity arises. This willingness is yet to be backed up by ability, as young Chris Lester showed clever footwork to navigate his way past four Royals defenders as he powered his way into the area before laying the ball back to Boben, who got the ball caught under his feet and was dispossessed before being able to get a shot away.
On the bright side, Lennon must surely be running the rule with a view to adding affordable talent to our roster and it makes a pleasant change to see players coming from far and wide instead of our usual happy hunting grounds at Crystal Palace and Millwall.
