Yes it was a tragedy that a 4 year old child died in an accident but tributes? What is this obsession with "tributes"? It is completely meaningless - she was 4 years old. She had done nothing to deserve tributes. A tribute is "a gift, testimonial, compliment, or the like, given as due or in acknowledgment of gratitude or esteem"

I think you are seriously missing the pint here Xmiles.

It is a way for the family to try to move on with their lives from the loss of the child no?

So tragic.

All she did was come home from school with her granny.

RIP Mitzi

Granny not so well either.

Also very sad for the young woman in Syria.

Seems like she was one of lifes do gooders - probably hadn't got a spiteful bone in her body - just wanted to help those less fortunate then herself.

Two of lifes innocents dead for no reason at all.

I think people are missing the point I am trying to make. In no way am I dismissing or trying to diminish the tragedy of what has happened. I am a parent and grandparent and even thinking about losing a child is awful. However it is not appropriate to pay tribute to a child. Tribute is not the right word and I get fed up with "tribute" being paid whenever someone dies regardless of how old they are or what they have achieved.

In the same way everyone suffering from a serious illness or anyone who gets seriously injured seems to be a "hero" these days. Some of them doubtless are, but all of them?

OK I am sounding pedantic now and if I am not careful I will be lecturing people about the "correct" use of literally and decimate next week.

it may not be a tribute as such, i think it's just the way people feel they can pay their respects to people.

Paying their respects is certainly a better way of expressing it.

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

Think it's a bit harsh discussing semantics over the death of a 4 year old girl. I do get what you're saying xmiles but I would be pretty pissed off if this was a discussion about my child.
