Bolton Wanderers Under-18s fought out a 0-0 draw with Manchester City on Saturday morning.
Having suffered a heavy defeat the last time the two sides met at Lostock earlier in the season, the young Whites were eager to avoid a repeat performance as they put in a strong defensive performance to earn a share of the spoils.
Looking dangerous on the counter-attack, Will Abbotts was twice denied by a mixture of goalkeeper and defender after finding space and shooting inside the area, with what were Bolton’s best opportunities on the day.
Speaking after the final whistle, Trotters coach David Lee said: “We played very well today and the lads worked hard to press the opponents.
“We had a good structure to the team shape and it worked well against good technical City team.
“Abbotts had a couple of good chances to score while our corners were also a constant threat with us coming close on several occasions.
“We competed well and the players responded to the week’s training in preparation for the game.
“Each player was solid in his performance and more than matched his individual opponent throughout the game.”
Bolton: Trialist, Spooner, Garratt, Honeyball, Phillips, Perry, Cvetko, Palmer, Likoy-Elumba, Thomas, Abbotts.
