Having been out of action for six weeks because of an ear infection, Jermaine Beckford marked his first team return with a goal as Preston North End won 4-0 away at Oldham Athletic.

Joining the action in place of Joe Garner in the 70th minute, the forward took just 12 minutes to get his name on the scoresheet, side-footing home into an empty net after running onto Sylvan Ebanks-Blake’s cutback.

Elsewhere in League One, Kaiyne Woolery came on for the final 15 minutes as Notts County lost 1-0 at home against Port Vale, in what was his last appearance for the Magpies prior to the expiration of his loan stint at Meadow Lane.

Keith Andrews was an unused substitute as MK Dons lost 2-1 away at Coventry City.

In the Championship, Alex Baptiste and Jay Spearing both started as Blackburn Rovers fought out a 0-0 draw away at Bournemouth.

Baptiste completed 90 minutes while Spearing was withdrawn with just under 20 minutes left on the clock as Lee Williamson came on in his place.

Meanwhile, Andy Kellett made his first start for Manchester United’s development squad on Monday night as they lost 1-0 to Bolton Wanderers at the County Ground, Leyland, in the Manchester FA Senior Cup semi-final.

Completing the full 90 minutes, the wideman missed a good chance to fire United ahead in the first half, side-footing wide after finding himself one-on-one.

Woolery scored the winner for Wanderers early in the second half following his return to BL6, lobbing Joel Pereira to set up a final clash with Manchester City.
