Wanderers under-18s earned a creditable share of the spoils when they drew 1-1 at Norwich City on Saturday.
David Lee's side made the long trip to Norfolk off the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Stoke City in the first game of the play-off section of the FA U18 Premier League.
And they faced a Canaries side that had beaten Arsenal 2-1 in their first game of the second stage and won five of their previous six matches.
But it was the young Whites who began brightest, working hard to press their hosts high and forcing them to concede possession on numerous occasions.
This saw Wanderers enjoying good spells in the attacking third and they capitalised when Christopher Cvetko broke the deadlock before half time.
The Austria-born front man won a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area and dusted himself down to score from it.
The Whites took their lead into the second period but Norwich put them under more pressure after the interval.
They were pegged back with windy conditions also in the hosts' favour.
And Norwich were back on level terms after a good move.
Lee's side remained positive and could have regained the lead but for a handful of squandered chances.
With 10 minutes to go Will Abbotts found himself one-on-one with the City stopper but could not profit from it.
Then Nathaniel Phillips saw a header from a Luke Griffiths corner miss the target.
Wanderers had to settle for a draw but coach Lee was pleased with his team's efforts.
He also praised one of three under-16 players stepping up to the squad with Jack Earing getting 20 minutes under his belt.
Lee said: "In the first half we worked very hard to press the opposition, causing them to give up possession.
"But in the second half, we were under some pressure, with windy conditions forcing us deep.
"Overall, it was a well-worked, physical performance throughout.
"I introduced three under-16s into the squad, with Jack Earing playing for 20 minutes which is great experience for him and the two who were on the bench."
Lee's side are on the road again on Saturday when they travel to face Newcastle United.
The young Whites won 3-1 away against the Magpies in September thanks to a Cvetko opener and a brace from top scorer Jamie Thomas.
